My grandmother hates her photo taken. Always has, but always posed reluctantly in photos. Sometimes she even broke out a smile. In the last few years I have tried to get my three kids sitting nicely with my grandmother for a photo. Once a year I try this task and each year someone is crying, looking scared or sitting on top of one another. This year was much more successful with all smiles, but really silly and not the fuzzy warm grandmotherly photo you would REALLY choose to have. It was a bit after this moment that I went to put my camera away and caught my son sitting on my grandmother’s lap. It was an emotional moment for me because my other grandparents have all passed on and she was the only grandparent who got to see me grow up, get married and have children. On this particular day I asked my grandmom, who is known as “Nan”, questions about her growing up and meeting my grandfather and how life was as a newlywed. I learned things that I never knew about her even after all of this time. She is really a spectacular woman who raised five children on her own for the most part, as my grandfather was fatally injured in an accident when my mom was just a child. She comments on how she doesn’t get how us kids (referring to my cousins and I) do it nowadays forgetting the burdens she had herself as a mother. So with that all being said, I was so happy to get a photo of my Nan and my son playing his little alphabet toy. I am also so happy that Nan has no computer knowledge whatsoever and will not know that her photo has been plastered on the internet.

Wow, Heather, that is awesome, love to hear that story and it is all soo true… I don’t know how she did it then alone, I know doing it with one is hard, but I give her soo much credit too. I am also glad she doesn’t have the internet now either, cause she’d have your head for posting her photo…lol. great picture… Love you Nann
Nan looks great! Enjoyed the read, Heather. My grandmother HATES her picture taken as well!
