As a child, my dad was always trying to teach me about photography. We had a dark room in our basement full of some really great equipment that I wish I had appreciated more back then. He had a Rolleicord camera that he tried to teach me about shutter speed and aperture on. I understood what he was explaining to me, but when I went to actually shoot the photo, I had no idea about light or how to get the correct exposure. It was all too confusing in the advancing world of photography for me, even in the early 90s when we all still used film. He went out and bought the solutions and paper we needed and step by step we developed pretty okay pictures I had taken of my good friends. I don’t know how much in love yet I was with the art itself or if it was just lack of practice to actually “grasp” it all, but I never kept with it and soon forgot what all that shutter business was about.

Fast forward to when my husband and I were finally expecting our first child. My “push” present (as some of you lucky moms know all about) was a my first digital camera – the Fuji Finepix S5100 complete with short video as well. To make it even sweeter was the Epson PictureMate Printer so that I could keep up with the hundreds of pictures I was taking daily of my new baby girl. I was suddenly remembering my love for photography as I snapped away at every move my daughter made. To this day I still have my Fuji camera as back up because that was one awesome little camera to which I have such sentimental attachment too as well. During all of this time (yes, I’m getting chatty, but another hobby of mine is talking), I had a great friend, Kim Weiss. She was such an inspiration to me (still is!) and really played a role in my decision to pick up and actually LEARN the art of photography again. This time it all clicked (quite literally) and it was now that I felt the true reward that photography gives us. My husband eventually gave me a more advanced camera when I had my twins on which I practiced and practiced – enough to earn an even dreamier one (nope, not another baby, I turned 30!) So in this quite long-winded story, I wanted to share with my readers as to how I fell for photography and those who influenced me along the way. I thank all of you, Dad, Jeff, Kim and my beautiful kids for helping me find an art that brings me true happiness!

This photo was taken on my very first Mother’s Day. It was this photo that was the turning point for me and every time I see it, I remember all of the new beginnings!

Its pretty often that I whip out the camera at complete random moments in my day. From molding Play-Doh to splashing in the tub, no opportunity can be missed from my perspective! For those who do not know, I have twin boys who are little monsters – cute monsters that is. They keep us on our toes in every way imaginable! My favorite thing about my guys is that they really, honest to goodness, love each other. They are very different physically and personality wise, but they are made for one another. I won’t lie and say they don’t fight and get aggressive at times, but most of the time they can be found licking each other’s yogurt cups to be sure they got every last drop, lending a hand when coming off of a big step, getting bowls out of the cabinet while the other steals handfuls of cookies from the lazy susan (that my readers is the TRUTH) and giving each other big sweet smooches complete with sound effects and hug. I love my guys and could not imagine for a second what our lives would be without them. So without further ado, soak up this sweetness!
